My plan is to start cycling on the West coast of Ireland (at Cliffs of Moher) and continue to Vienna (Austria), a distance of 2500 km.
At the very end of August, I’ll turn my back on the Atlantic on the high cliffs of Clare and head always eastwards across Ireland to Rosslare.
An overnight ferry will bring me to Pembroke (Wales) and then it’s off across Wales and England to London where I’ll take the only Rest Day of the trip.
In London, I’ll join up with a group of 14 (Irish and English) on the London-to-Paris cycle for Kings College Hospital Neonatal Unit.
From Paris, (as they head back to London by train), I’ll cycle on eastwards across France, cross the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine into the Black Forest region of Germany and then pick up the Danube 900 km cycle track which I’ll follow right on to the city of Vienna.
Except for the London to Paris leg, I’ll carry all my gear in panniers (12 kg approx) and on 28 tyres, so I'll be content travelling at around 20 km/hr.
I’ve spent quite a time planning and plotting (which I actually enjoy) and booking. All I need now is pleasant weather (and a bit of a tailwind).
As each day passes I intend to put up text and photos of how the trip is panning out. Do feel free to post comments or queries and I’ll respond.
